I went to C’mon Everybody to hear Rich Medina DJ. Was fun. And rare. That is all.

Last weekend my Dad and I went to Afropunk. It was the best energy, amazing music, with activism and great food. This is who we heard:

-Fade em All-Loud alternative and so good

-Rebelmatic-Metal! Yeah!

Toro Y Moi-Electronica-ooo-eee

-Lianne La Havas-not new but new to me! Beautiful melodies!

-The Suffers-Large band of instrumentalists with amazing female lead vocalist.

-Santigold

-Kamasi Washington (his band and vocalist were also great and I saw Andre Royo at this show!)

-FKA Twigs (!)

Thursday I went to Pier 17 at the South St. Seaport to see Violent Femmes and Ben Folds. So great to be out and about in the summer hearing these two solid acts! Thanks guys! Check it out:

My mom visited last week and we went to Bethel Woods, the site of the original Woodstock ’69, to see Heart. They were amazing! Nothing substitutes for a great show with good energy. Sheryl Crow also played and of course she was amazing–can’t wait to buy her new album! Elle King also opened for them and she’s great–her voice! Check it out:

Ingrid, Marci and I went to the 25th anniversary Wu-Tang Clan concert at Coney Island!

Been wanting to see Rufus Wainwright for years, but the timing has never been quite right. Finally saw him at City Winery–his voice is unbelievable, and he has stamina! Didn’t want to use my phone but snuck a little tiny bit.

Went to The Dandy Warhol’s show at Brooklyn Steel. It’s their 25 anniversary and they are still as cool as ever. They played their new album, Why You So Crazy, along with old favorites. Hadn’t been that happy in a long time. Don’t miss Courtney Taylor’s solo cover of “Your Ghost”.

Saw Melissa at Town Hall today. She was in. cred. ible.

An amazing musician, an amazing voice, incredible stamina, and great new songs. Her new album, The Medicine Show, comes out on Friday. Check out the videos.
