“You are important to us”

Deep thought of the day:

Customer service jargon like “Your feedback is important to us” and “We are sorry you were displeased” is a line for people who hear “You don’t matter” when they don’t get what they want.

10-year Challenge

As we reach midsommar and I approach (I hope) mid-life, I wanted to offer this 10-year challenge. The left photo is from my wedding day, the right, from a few weeks ago. A lot has changed between these two June photos. I am a non-smoker now, for instance. I was so happy on my wedding day and at the same time I don’t think that that April would dare to dream for the life I currently inhabit today. I’m no longer married, and there’ve been some lows and some rebuilding periods to make that and other life changes. I’ve grown from a child to an adult between 24 and 34. Looking back at how much my dreams and realities changed over the past 10 years, I look forward to maturing into my late 30’s and 40’s. It’s all love.

Edinburgh

I went to Edinburgh (pronounced “Edinborough”) after a business trip to London. Was so beautiful there. I accidentally went on marathon weekend, but it was still totally manageable. Would recommend, and also the train ride through the English countryside was beautiful (and cow/sheep-ridden). J.K. Rowling wrote much of Harry Potter in Scotland, wow! Check out the pics!

Las Vegas

I met my dad in Vegas in January and I also saw Lady Gaga in her residency, Enigma. I never know Vegas had such beautiful natural elements so nearby until we visited Red Rock Canyon Park. We also went to the Hoover Dam, which was arresting. Lady Gaga was, of course, unforgettable. Check out the pics.

London October 2018

I went to London for a work trip last week. It is still fair weather there–I am told I brought it. Haha. Anyway, I went to see Catherine Ryan–a hilarious comedian whose Netflix special you should definitely check out–and also to the Brixton Electric to see Mahalia–whose music you should also check out, along with her opener Jvck James. Ate like a pig–it was awesome. Check out the pics.

RIP Emma

In May my friend Emma Meyer died. Saturday was her memorial service. Some friends bought beautiful flowers and people spoke about their memories of her. She was incredibly smart. One friend played a few beautiful songs on ukulele in her honor. Miss you always Emma. One of the songs was Wildflowers by Tom Petty. Pretty much sums it up.

Portland

Just got back from my summer vacation..this time I decided to checkout Portland, Oregon. Hometown of my favoeite band, The Dandy Warhols, and the only major city I haven’t seen on the West Coast, my mission was to eat, explore, and look out for Dandies sightings. Air Bnb this time, I got a really great studio right in downtown Portland. So, a few things, it’s really clean there. The natural resources, most of which I ate, are amazing. I’m talking salmon salmon and berries that you wouldn’t believe. i tried all the inventive flavors of Salt & Straw ice cream, this is a must. I visited a wine bar that occupies part of The Dandy Warhol’s recording studio, clubhouse, eventspace extraordinaire, and even got to peak inside the main space (ack!). Despite lurking outside of the bar looking for the proprietor, lead singer Courtney Taylor, i did not have a Dandy sighting–ah well. I did sight some urban greenery, in the amazing and expansive Washington Park, as well as some amazing amazing houses (not a real estate junkie, they were just THAT nice). I did go to Multnomah Falls, just outside the city and along the gorge that the Columbia River flows through. I was sad to leave, but got some great photos. Check it out!
