Heart/Sheryl Crow

My mom visited last week and we went to Bethel Woods, the site of the original Woodstock ’69, to see Heart. They were amazing! Nothing substitutes for a great show with good energy. Sheryl Crow also played and of course she was amazing–can’t wait to buy her new album! Elle King also opened for them and she’s great–her voice! Check it out:

10-year Challenge

As we reach midsommar and I approach (I hope) mid-life, I wanted to offer this 10-year challenge. The left photo is from my wedding day, the right, from a few weeks ago. A lot has changed between these two June photos. I am a non-smoker now, for instance. I was so happy on my wedding day and at the same time I don’t think that that April would dare to dream for the life I currently inhabit today. I’m no longer married, and there’ve been some lows and some rebuilding periods to make that and other life changes. I’ve grown from a child to an adult between 24 and 34. Looking back at how much my dreams and realities changed over the past 10 years, I look forward to maturing into my late 30’s and 40’s. It’s all love.

Rufus Wainwright

Been wanting to see Rufus Wainwright for years, but the timing has never been quite right. Finally saw him at City Winery–his voice is unbelievable, and he has stamina! Didn’t want to use my phone but snuck a little tiny bit.

Edinburgh

I went to Edinburgh (pronounced “Edinborough”) after a business trip to London. Was so beautiful there. I accidentally went on marathon weekend, but it was still totally manageable. Would recommend, and also the train ride through the English countryside was beautiful (and cow/sheep-ridden). J.K. Rowling wrote much of Harry Potter in Scotland, wow! Check out the pics!

Olive Oil Ice Cream

I made my own version of Salt & Straw’s Arbequina Olive Oil Ice cream:

2 egg yolks

About 1.5 cups milk

3 shakes salt

2 spoonfuls sugar

(some) Olive Oil (1 second dash direct from bottle to pot)

Heat milk, oil, and salt in pot until simmering but not boiling, reduce heat as much as possible. In a separate bowl whisk eggs and sugar together. Add half the milk mixture, one spoonful at a time to the egg mixture, while whisking. Dump milk and egg mixture into heated pot with remaining milk and heat on lowest setting for 20 minutes, stirring constantly. In final 2 minutes, raise heat slightly until mixture thickens but the eggs don’t scramble. Remove from heat and continue stirring until warm but not hot. Sieve into a bowl and let cool to room temperature. Cover with Saran wrap (let the plastic touch the surface of the liquid) and place in freezer, whisking every 30 minutes for 2 hours or so. Eat and enjoy (as I am below)!

The Dandy Warhols 2019

Went to The Dandy Warhol’s show at Brooklyn Steel. It’s their 25 anniversary and they are still as cool as ever. They played their new album, Why You So Crazy, along with old favorites. Hadn’t been that happy in a long time. Don’t miss Courtney Taylor’s solo cover of “Your Ghost”.
